Axiata Group, a Malaysian company, has withdrawn its investment in Ncell. They said that they were not earning enough money anymore.
Axiata purchased a portion of Ncell in 2072 and profited greatly. However, they recently began to lose money, so they chose to leave Ncell in Nepal. According to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, Ncell lost many users. Ncell had 3.4 million customers in 2079, but only 132 million by June 2080. That’s a 2 lakh user loss in just three months.
Axiata has operations in six countries. They go by different names in other countries, such as XL Axiata in Indonesia, Dialog in Sri Lanka, Robi in Bangladesh, Smart in Cambodia, and Cellcom Digi in Malaysia. They made the decision to leave Nepal because things were not going well for them.
